A Short-Term Team Runs on Water and Coke

A group of 11 people from Camp Bighorn in Montana arrive tomorrow, to spend the first week of their month in Mexico in Ixtapaluca. The group is part of a program entitled Journey: Discipleship through Adventure. I don’t know a whole lot about the group, except that they just spent the last three weeks hiking in the Utah desert, and that while here they plan to hike up a 17,000+ foot volcano.

Turns out culture can be pretty adventurous too. They’ll be housed with Mexican host families. Usually I do all I can to make a group’s time as generally stress-free as possible. I’ve taken a step back with this group. They want adventure…they’re going to get it.

Among the extras: taking the Metro across the city without a guide, shopping in an open market with certain requirements (buy a kilo of guayaba, for example), and eat whatever Samuel buys for them (and oh, does he have some ideas!).

I’m still deciding if I should pick them up right away at the airport…or observe from a safe distance and see what they do.

  1. I’d like to see what Samuel buys for them to eat… fortunately, Aurora is a fantastic cook, so whoever stays with them are going to be in for a treat! I miss her tamales veracruzanos. Have a blessed time with the team!
