Quick Trip, Two Purposes

Last week I flew into Harrisburg, PA, then drove up to Boston for three days with son Daniel. While in Boston we stayed with friend Victor Monterosso on the campus of Northeastern University, which is in downtown Boston, then in guest housing at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.

I was able to attend a mentor re-certification seminar at GCTS. In the past we have hosted several students from GC, including Daniel Ransom (who I first met at MBI, as well as his wife Erin) and Jonatan Toledo, who was a short-term missionary with TIME Ministries in 2006 before participating in the formal summer internship here in 2007, and again in 2008 as a leader.

After the seminar, Jonatan introduced me to Alvin Padilla, Dean of the Hispanic Ministries Program, and Juan Carlos Morales, who works as assistant dean in the same department. Our hope is to see a potential partnership with Gordon-Conwell in the future.

The other purpose that was at least as important as the first one was to spend time with Daniel! It’s been about 3 1/2 months now since he’s been living in PA without us. He actually drove most of the 15 hour trip to Boston and back. Jonatan, Victor and Victor’s friend Taylor did a great job in showing us the beautiful city of Boston. And as an added bonus, I was able to attend Daniel’s end-of-season football banquet, where he received his first letter for football, as well as a coach’s award, “Most Energetic.” Great times. Plus some serious snow in PA!
