Wheelchair Outreach Recharged

Posted in

You may remember that over the past several years we’ve been distributing free wheelchairs as an extension of the ministry here, and as a great way to aid our community, especially a segment of the population that needs assistance. Mayra’s sister Monica has been confined to a wheelchair since she was 6 years old, so we know first-hand the challenges!

The last event we had was way back in January of this year, when we were able to distribute around 20 chairs, in partnership with a team from Fremont Alliance. You can check that out HERE. Fremont Alliance is co-worker Tina’s home church. Check out a blog post from Tina HERE.

After trying to get more chairs for several months, we finally received authorization for 50 wheelchairs. Today and tomorrow Julian and I will be making the trek across Mexico City to pick them up. We can fit 20 boxes in our Astro van, and hopefully 10 in the other one!

Hope Community Church, in Rheems, PA, has included a wheelchair project in their “Gifts of Hope” Christmas ministry catalog. $25 helps give the gift of mobility to a needy person in Mexico. We plan on involving a group from Mt. Calvary Church, in Elizabethtown, in this ministry next June.

If you would be interested in helping purchase a chair or two or 10, let me know. Buying 50 of them wasn’t, er, necessarily in our budget this month!

Below…Rosa, a wonderful young lady who very much appreciated her new wheelchair! Below, a video that co-worker Jim Cottrill produced of one of our events.
