Airport runs

Posted in

I actually rather enjoy going to the airport because I can indulge in a Chai Tea Latte or a Caramel Macchiato at one of the airport’s numerous Starbucks. I’ll be going today to pick up Ken Emerson and Ashley Foster. Ashley came down last summer, and wanted to bring her youth leader this time. Then on to the Northern bus terminal, to pick up Kendra, our ESL wizard, who is coming in from San Juan del Rio. Kendra flies out tomorrow at some indecent hour (like 6 a.m.). So tomorrow, guess where I’ll be going at around 4 a.m.? Yes, the airport.

Tomorrow after the airport, later in the day at around 1:30, the interns (5) arrive (at the Northern terminal) to finish out their last three weeks here in Ixtapaluca. And do we have some fun times planned for them.

Then Sunday, and…guess what?…another trip to the airport to bring back 9 Uncharted Waters team members. Still not sure how we’ll do that one…maybe take two vans or rent a taxi for the return trip. The airport is only 20 miles away, but with rain and crazy traffic often takes up to 2 hours to get there…or get back.

Quote of the day:
G.K. Chesterton once observed that when God and his truth vanish from a society, it would be natural to think that people would no longer believe in anything at all. That, however, turns out not to be the case. Now they believe in everything.

How else do you explain the remarkable circumstance of highly sophisticated people, secularized or postmodern, who can assault any and every religious belief but who, at the same time, can indulge fantasies about aliens? Or sightings of Elvis? Or the most far-fetched conspiracy theories…

The Courage to be Protestant, David Wells, p. 71
