Board Games and Future Projects

Posted in

I received word recently that Operation Blessing Mexico (click here for U.S. site in English) now has second generation all terrain wheelchairs available. So far, thanks to a lot of help from friends, we’ve been able to donate 61 of these chairs. Fairly often, however, the chairs go to kids, smaller kids that would fit better in a narrower chair. So much fun giving these chairs out!

We are excited to have several people down in March.  Gamer friend Charles has already sent down advanced instructions (in Spanish) to teach us a new strategy game (Power Grid-pic below). Looks pretty complicated, sort of like Ticket to Ride on steroids!  Dave Miller, who was just visiting us, said that his son actually gets paid to set up strategy games for evangelistic outreaches in churches!  Apparently his son has been involved in national Dominion tournaments. For those of you not familiar with Dominion, the entire collection includes the basic game and seven extensions (we have three boxes…but rumor has it Charles may be bringing two more).    You can download a free Dominion random card selection app for Google Chrome HERE

I still like Settlers of Catan. Yes, there is luck involved, but there is also quite a bit of interaction with other players, something generally missing in Dominion. Hmm…maybe our next outreach here could be teaching people board games!

Actually we’ve been knocking around several future projects, including reconditioning one side of the water tower into a more official (or at least official-looking) handball court, maybe putting in a skating park, or putting in some additional playground or exercise equipment. We’ll see!
