Camp Bighorn 2019

Posted in

We are privileged to host a group of 10 from Camp Bighorn, Plains Montana for the third year in a row. Check out their website, we are involved with giving their gap program, entitled Journey, a week of orientation to Mexico and Mexican culture. If you’re a young person looking for a dynamic year of discipleship through adventure after high school and before college, check out Camp Bighorn’s Journey Program.

This year was full of fun and activity. During their short time here we’ve visited Paso de Cortez, between two nearby volcanoes, driving to above 12,000 ft.

Sprint at 12,000 ft. David won, although there were accusations of an early jump!

Other side trips included a trip to a rural Mexican high school and a visit to Mexico City’s downtown area, including the zócalo, Que Bo chocolates, Santa Clara ice cream, Bellas Artes and more.

Tenochtitlan, the ruins of Mexico City’s main Aztec pyramid, conquered by Hernan Cortez.

The group had to figure out some urban challenges, among them going from near downtown to the Basilica of Guadalupe on the Metro, and of course the food challenged, featuring Samuel and 20 weird foods that even a Mexican might not eat! And no Mexican orientation would be complete without a lot of food and food with the Mexican church!

Squeezing in the Frys house…how many times has this happened in the last 14 years? Remember the Golden Brigams!
Sonya eating…oh, she probably doesn’t want to know!

Check out these posts from Camp Bighorn’s time here last year, 2018, and their first year here in 2017.
