Cold Day in Mexico City

Posted in

This morning when we left home for church around 8:45 a.m., the outside temperature was 37°F. We are studying in Science and Physics the relationship between temperature and pressure. Sure enough, the sensors in the van showed three tires in need of more pressure. As the day when on, however, the pressure in the tires went up. What an experiment!

By the time we reached church 10 minutes later, the temp had risen to 41°F, and this afternoon I’m quite sure we were back up to a toasty 75-80°F. But if you think Mexico is always intolerably hot, you’re probably thinking about sea level temps. Here, at 7200 ft. above sea level, it can get downright cold! If you don’t believe me, ask our co-workers, the Cottrills. They can practically see their breathe sometimes, and that’s inside their house! Co-worker Tina also mentioned that the tile on her floor was so cold it hurt!

Had a great service today! The worship team always arrives at the second story room we rent an hour early to set up and practice. Today, the owner of the place casually mentioned to me that he will be doing repair work, painting and masonry, and we won’t be able to use it next week! Would have been nice to know a bit before. What to do? We’ll figure something out. The church, after all, is certainly not confined to a building…at least it shouldn’t be!

Quote of the Day: These, then, are the two points I wanted to make. First, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way. They know the Law of Nature; they break it. These two facts are the foundation of all clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in.
