Community Center activities starting up, pics from last week

This week marks the beginning of another 12 weeks of activity for our Jesús María Community Center, and it started with guitar classes, taught by David Gómez, today at 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. We are extending our ESL classes to three days this semester, with ESL being taught from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., then a second class from 6:30 to 7:30, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tiffany Taylor is teaching country line dancing on Wednesday evening at 7:30. It’s very, very safe to say that none of these people have ever line danced! We’ll see how it goes.

On Wednesday and Friday, basketball happens. We hope to organize our new team soon, and be incorporated into a municipal basketball league, complete with jerseys and everything, by the end of this year.

A week ago we were gearing up to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day. It was a INCREDIBLE show, with more fireworks than I’ve seen anyway, as well as a light show, concerts and, of course, the “grito” at 11 p.m. sharp. The first picture is of the “grito” and the rest are of some of the show, courtesy of a friend of a friend, who was right down in the middle of the festivities.

Quote of the Day: God wants everything that we do as leaders—and the way we do it—to reflect the image of His Son. This is our driving force; our holy aspiration in all things. But in order to get there, i.e., increasingly more of Him and less of us, He has to break us…. God breaks us so that we know that we are being carried by Him. And that is a sweet, wonderful, safe place to be. Leadership as an Identity, C. Loritts, p. 77
