Equality and Fiestas

Victor Monterroso from the Boston area has been with us for the last three weeks, and has been teaching a Bible study on the book of Philemon during three Tuesday evenings. It’s been a good study! Really interesting how radical a book Philemon is, confronting slavery and laying the foundations for equality WAY before that was a cool concept.

Last night the study was less attended, because there was another party going on at the same time, a birthday party for Michel, David’s Uruguayan friend. Pretty crazy time, with a Harlem Shake presentation, the typical mordida (or bite) of the cake (poor Michel) and a lot of other craziness!

For the last several days he’s been staying with Noah and Claudia, a brand new part of our church family (pic below).  Victor has also been helping Daniel with his Alegra class, and I’ve appreciated the help!

Quote of the Day: Missionaries, by the nature of their task, must become personally immersed with peoples who are very different. To follow the example of Christ, that of incarnation, means undergoing drastic personal reorientation.  Sherwood Lingenfelter and Marvin Mayers comment,
