Fifth Anniversary Celebration

This past Sunday, about 40 of us traveled about 40 minutes from Ixtapaluca, toward our two towering neighbors, Iztaccíhuatl (translated the white woman, or sleeping woman) and Popocatépetl (the smoking mountain), which is a very active volcano. Izta and Popo for short.  It’s really a beautiful area. We went to celebrate Sendero Palmas’ fifth anniversary.  Hard to believe it’s been five years.

We enjoyed a “día de campo” or one-day outing, setting up our chairs and stools under the canopy of Mexican pine, and we ate a generous lunch of grilling all sorts of meats over a wood-fed fire. Oh, and we celebrated with a cake also (below), graciously created by one of the members of the congregation.

Of course, the real celebration is focused on the love and faithfulness of God; how He continues to rescue people out of their lives of slavery to sin, redeeming them (us!) to a life of fruitfulness for their Maker and Savior.

Of course…eating good is a fringe benefit of these events! Above…two types of Mexican sausage, beef and grilled nopales (cactus). Not pictured…a lot of other deliciousness, like goat cheese, spring onions, avocados, corn tortillas, chicharrón (fried pig skin) and salsa.

  1. I think we went to a similar place if not the same when I was with you long long ago! Good food and fellowship. Praise God for the work he is doing through you!
