Pastor’s Breakfast at Puebla Bible Seminary

Posted in

Toño Muñoz stopped by today at around 7 a.m., and we headed to Puebla. Toño was speaking at the Puebla Bible Seminary, for a Pastor’s breakfast, and I went along as his bodyguard. The word for someone going to an event that they weren’t invited to in Spanish is colado.  I was the colado today!  Great breakfast.  It was good seeing some old friends, among them Hernán Cortéz (really!) and Tom Basile.  Thanks, Brian N., for the pic!

Toño’s car, a 2006 Hyundai Accent, began to have some problems as we arrived at the Seminary (after a quick Starbucks stop in Cholula).  After the breakfast, we still needed to fix the car.  Tom mentioned a friend of his, Olaf, who works at the BAM (Business as Missions) Center that Tom and others are working on.  So we cruised over there.

As the car was being fixed, Tom communicated his vision for the BAM Center…really a phenomenal place with a vision for using all sorts of different ministries and businesses to reach the community (and make a profit) in creative, non-traditional ways.  Truly inspirational!  We also got to know Olaf, Paul and Joe a bit better.  Great guys!  The showed us a 35 peso (about $3) buffet where we ate lunch.  Our first lunch of the day.

We drove home, just in time to catch at late turkey dinner with Tina and Tiffany, and guests Stephen, Fabian and the Fry family!  We really weren’t too hungry…but we made the sacrifice!  A good, full day!

Quote of the Day: Serving people is not just doing what seems good in our own culture but seeking out the knowledge of the people, learning from them, knowing their cultural values and then acting in ways that support the fabric of the culture to the degree possible. After taking these steps, we will have served them.
