Quinceaños, Weddings and Tattoos

Posted in

This year’s final month is going to be full of special activities, with a girl from our church celebrating her 15th birthday (quinceaños) which is a celebration at least as spectacular as a wedding. Pray for Andrea as she begins the “adult” part of her life! Among the symbols that we’ll be using to illustrate this rite of passage…a ring, a doll, a broom, a crown and a candle. Should be fun! I’ll be officiating the service and the worship time.

Exactly one week later, our small church will be rejoicing with Zac and Gabriela, two young people who will be getting married.  Lots of details for that day, but the most important detail is already settled. Two Christian young people desire to express their commitment to one another making holy promises that will, we trust, last a lifetime.

I’ve been helping Laura and Sendero 1 Santa Bárbara a bit with their Christmas choir. Laura has done a great job picking music and organizing a group of probably close to 20 people, and their sings some tried and true classics (Angels We have Heard on High) as well as some new songs (Carol of the Bells). The group will be singing on November 30, then at a special Christmas dinner for leaders of the area Bible churches on December 8.

In other news, Daniel continues to send me videos from Lecrea and others about how piercings and tattoos are a cultural issue, and how even Jesus in Reveleation 19:16 has King of Kings written on his thigh! Hmm…this is so much fun. I actually agree with much of his logic…but don’t tell him that.

Quote of the Day: “Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark that, left unattended, may grow to an inferno that destroys Panem.”
Collins, Suzanne Mockingjay (p. 6).
