Remembering God’s Faithfulness

As I write this I’m getting ready for a mission conference this weekend. Mayra and I will be heading up to the northern part of Mexico City to visit the Iglesia Bíblica Cristiana Villa de Las Flores, or Villa for short. Good friends Erik and Patty Morga minister there, and the church has been a key church in mission outreach for many years, supporting a number of different missionaries from northern Mexico to China.

Every year, Mayra and I organize at least two mission trips within Mexico, focusing on least-reached areas in the states of Guanajuato and Oaxaca. We have also visited the state of Veracruz several times in the past. Erik organizes trips to the Sierra Tlalpaneca, in the western state of Guerrero, as well as visits to a small town in the state of Tamaulipas, in northern Mexico, called Tula. This was Mayra and my first short-term mission trip in Mexico, and oh, how we remember our first trip to Tula! In the interest of remembering God’s faithfulness, and without going into too many details, allow me to share some pictures, from 1993.

Quite the crew! I am standing next to Erik, who has a cross on his t shirt, and in back of Mayra (we were dating at the time). Erik’s wife Patty is in the front row, left side.
We were following missionary legend Charlie Jordan, to a town way into the desert of northern Mexico.
I decided to take a detour, knowing that we were only going one place, and that the road would merge with the road Charlie took. Didn’t expect this!
To this day I have know idea how we “jumped” that hole. I’m convinced an angel helped us. The car was broken beyond repair…or so I thought. But that’s another story.

I love this story. Thank you for reminding me about God’s protection and sovereignty.
