Special Times with Special People in PA

Posted in

September and October, 2024 were spent in PA, and what a great two months they were!  Rod had the opportunity to preach at Word of Life Chapel, E-town Grace and Mount Joy Church of God. We had SO much fun at Wolc’s 40th youth group reunion, and were happy to honor good friends Keith and Marcia Heigel for 4 decades of youth ministry. We also visited Mount Calvary Christian School‘s Spanish classes, and saw a bunch of kids that have visited us over the years from that church and school.

Mayra’s mother and sister visited us in PA for several weeks, which provided a time for our kids to be with their Mexican relatives. Israel, our nephew, was also able to visit for an even longer period. Our families are almost always separated by language and countries: always great when we can get them together for a few weeks!

One of the main reasons why we came north was to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary! What a special time that was! My parents are exceptional people, both in their own right. It was wonderful to be able to honor them and celebrate 60 years of faithfulness and friendship.

Our situation is unique, in that five of our supporting churches are within a twenty-minute drive of one another. Over the past three years, all of them have visited us in Mexico over the summer, with three of the five visiting us this past summer. We met with several of them during our time here to talk about the possibility of returning next summer, and one church has already confirmed a visit. We are so grateful for all of their faithful, personal support, but for spiritually uplifting us and for their financial commitment.

Another highlight of our time here was visiting the Museum of the Bible, in Washington D.C. Among the really interesting material was a large room with all the languages of the world, divided into which languages had the whole Bible translated, which had only the New Testament, which languages had at least 35 chapters translated, which languages had had some work done, and which languages have no translation done, including languages in restricted areas. Below, a picture of the bronze arrowheads recovered that date back to the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 586 B.C.

Rod has been working on several projects for the coming months, including an international mission assembly in Guatemala in November, as well as a mobilization workshop focusing on short-term teams, to eventually be offered to local churches in a one-day conference format (6-8 hours on a Saturday) as well as a virtual format (10-one-hour online sessions). He is also excited about representing Liebenzell USA at Moody Bible Institute’s mission conference next February.

Of course, lots more happened in PA over the last two months. Here are some photographic highlights.
