Summer Internship and Activities

Posted in

We are excited to begin our summer internship program here. Marcy, an MBI student, is the first to arrive, then Abbie (Texas A&M), Corinne (another Aggie), and Tiffany (from John Brown University). Joy Federich (Colby) will be joining us later on, along with Andrew Paul (Dallas Christian).

Mike Contreras and Teo Moreno will be helping us out for a week in June, coordinating a sports week for kids, with a Bible emphasis. Mike atended a sports training week put on by Uncharted Waters Sports Ministry and pres. Tim Conrad here in Ixtapaluca back in 2011 (I think). Mike has been doing sports camps all over Mexico ever since! Below, a pic with Tim and Teo during that training.

I spoke to Julio at Operation Blessing, Mexico, and he’ll have more wheelchairs arriving at their bodega the end of the month. The goal is to distribute another 20 chairs this summer in conjunction with the summer interns presence here. If you’d like to donate the $12 that each wheelchair costs, let me know and I’ll let you know how to get the $ to us.

Another airport run later on today! David Gómez and friend Michel are heading back to Uruguay after spending the last three weeks here visiting churches and participating in the FAMEX missions conference.

Quote of the Day: In the academic world, scholars keep score by how often an article they write is cited by other scholars. By this sheer secular score, Jesus’ intellectual impact is unprecedented. According to Harvard professor Harvey Cox, “the words [of the Sermon on the Mount] are the most luminous, most quoted, most analyzed, most contested, most influential moral and religious discourse in all of human history. This may sound like an overstatement, but it is not.”
Ortberg, John Who Is This Man?: The Unpredictable Impact of the Inescapable Jesus (p. 62).
