We’re Back!

Posted in

Of course, we never really went away, but we’ve had a bunch of problems with website servers and, most recently, our desktop computer needing fixed that we haven’t updated MexicoMatters.org very frequently. The computer is functional…although doesn’t look very pretty. Here’s an update:

1. Our Commission to Every Nation (CTEN) teammate Kaycee Kaba arrived yesterday, safe and sound! Kaycee has served with friend and ministry partner Dave Miller, of Adventures in Life Ministry on short-term teams in Mexico over the last 10 years, and will be continuing to support both Dave’s ministry and now ours here in Ixtapaluca for the next year. Her Spanish is pretty good! We’re excited to have her, and grateful to Lighthouse Community Church for their support in helping get Kaycee to Mexico. We initiated her to the ministry with two intense games of Settlers of Catan and Power Grid last night! She saw right away who we really are.

2. Community Center activities for this semester began two weeks ago. Classes are offered in two different neighborhoods, including Palmas 1, which is a new target area for us. As a team we are offering English, guitar, keyboard, craft, painting and baking classes. In Palmas 1 we’ve seen a good response, with class size averaging from 3-10 people.

3. In family news, we’re grateful to the Ogilvie family for making Daniel feel part of the family. He began working part-time at Hoss’s in Elizabethtown, and is working on parallel parking with his grandpa in order to pass his driver’s test, coming up soon. Ha! Cathy turns 15 this year, and she says she doesn’t want a big quinceaños party. A trip instead maybe? David is 12 and in a crazy growth spirit, wearing size 9 shoes already, with big hands and a big mouth! With David, there is never, ever a dull moment.

4. We’ve begun to distributed 50 wheelchairs that were purchased in December, and plan to take 10-12 of them to needy people in the state of Oaxaca the beginning of February.

A special prayer request: friends and New Tribes missionaries Jon and Kristen Smedley were recently in a very bad accident an hour from their home in rural Cambodia. They were miraculously saved from death, but Kristen sustained some serious injuries, including a broken wrist and lost of a part of her pinky finger. Please pray for them during this time!
